Clay Bank Top – Coast to Coast (Day 12)
The TV weather presenter was ecstatic at announcing that England would have a second consecutive sunny and warm day, even reaching temperatures of around 20C! Summer was finally here!
After another fabulous cooked breakfast it was time to drag ourselves away from more wonderful hospitality. The sun was indeed shining and the skies where blue so we pushed off at 9:30am, a reasonable hour!
It wasn’t long before we had climbed up and onto the North Yorkshire Moors. The views all day were spectacular and we could see all the way out to the ocean across meadows and villages.
It wasn’t until the later part of the day did we realise that the walk became a roller coaster ride, with each climb up the other side seemingly steeper than the previous until we came to the final descent which was also the point where we made a call to our evening’s accommodation so they could pick us up as there were no towns close enough to service walkers on the trail.
Our host picked us up within 5min of us arriving at the roadside and also took us to the Bucks Inn at Chop Gate for our evening meal, then back to their B&B for the night!
Whilst physically tiring, todays walk was very enjoyable, we think we have now achieved a good level of walking fitness. Well the proof will be in the pudding as we have another 30km day tomorrow!

That shadow looks like you have high heels on Stephano!!! I thought you promised to leave these at home for this trip??!!
You should’ve been more insistent knowing that I’d run into trouble wearing them on long distant walks. I wish I’d listened to you and taken the boots instead!
