London – Day 2
The day was to start with a 10am “Tour de London”, but due to overwhelming demand we were rescheduled for a 2:00pm start (I believe that’s when the real pro riders head off). So after a quick re-shuffle of our itinerary, we headed off along London’s Southbank to Shakespeare Globe to experience a very informative tour. Next, we headed towards London Tower and Tower bridge, but realised we would be pushing to make it back in time for the start of the “Tour de London” so limited our sightseeing to just climbing the Monument (Erected in memory of the London fires). After taking the 300+ stairs and sucking in the 360 degree views it was time to prepare ourselves for the “Tour”.
Tour Stats:
Duration: 4Hrs
Distance covered: 10km
Ascent: 10m
Nature breaks: 1
Hydration: 1x Pub stop for a pint of cider
GC position: outside the cutoff by 30min (was an official 3.5hr tour but our team had too much fun!)
Course highlights:
Southbank
Cycling over Tower Bridge with Double decker buses passing by within inches
East London and scenic Canals once used by ships
St Paul’s Cathedral
Learning and sighting all the modern London buildings. The Shard, Cheese Grater, The Gherkin, Walkie Talkie, The Egg and the Inside Out Building. All impressive landmarks in and around London.
We then called it a day!
