2nd Chance?

Well it’s time to dust off the backpacks, patch up the holes in our trusty old Merrell boots and assess the kit for another light weight travel adventure. It’s also the easiest way to justify the purchase of some additional new kit!

Life inevitably throws you a curve ball that catches you off guard. In our case, I had the unfortunate mishap of a literal heart stopping moment out in the surf during our Australian summer vacation that complicated matters somewhat with having to revive a drowned heart attack victim! Nothing that 10min of CPR and an electric shock couldn’t fix!

Recovery has been relatively quick with a lot of wonderful support from family and friends so when a last minute opportunity came our way for a fully inclusive 13 day guided Tour of Mont Blanc we jumped at it!

Whilst I started writing this posting before we departed, I am finishing it whilst on a train from Geneva to Lyon, the final leg of our 27hr epic journey (with most of it couped up in cattle class). We have planned a couple of days in Lyon in France, hopefully relaxing and exploring the place before we head to Chamonix for the start of our tour. I hope to post each day when and where and if  (the body willing) I can.

We have finally checked in to Okko Hotel in Lyon, showered (already feel better) and enjoyed the Hotel’s evening appetizes (will be enough for us for dinner tonight). The bed is beckoning us at 9pm with no fight in us to go off exploring. Tomorrow we plan to join a morning walking tour to take in the sights…

Edinburgh – Day 2

Where: Edinburgh – London
Distance: Zero (well not including the train trip!)
Weather: Overcast/Cold
Mood: Relaxed
Highlight: Scottish National Museum

Today we snuck in a visit to the Scottish National Museum before departing Edinburgh. We also got a tip that they have good coffee at the museum cafe (we weren’t disappointed!)

We have thoroughly enjoyed Edinburgh and both our hosts, Patrick and Chee at our AirBnB accommodation were a pleasure and provided great assistance in helping us with maximising our visit and recommendations on where to eat.

Now seated in the “Flying Scotsman” we watch with mixed emotions the countryside we have ridden along wiz past at some phenomenal speed which just doesn’t compute after spending days riding it! We will also cross the Coast to Coast route on the journey south back to London where our adventure 4 weeks ago all began.

We will be departing London tomorrow with a short stopover in Brunei before the final leg home to Melbourne.

To all those dedicated followers, we trust you have enjoyed following our blog and thanks for those that have posted comments and encouragement. We really appreciate it. Apologies we couldn’t respond to all of them! We were lucky at times just to have enough energy to put up the daily post.

Until the next adventure. Buen Camino!
