Three Capes Track – Prologue

Destinations: MONA, Hobart, Mt Field National Park
Distance: Various
Mood: Relaxed and upbeat
Highlights: Many! (Jackman + McRoss, Russell Falls, Mona, Salamanca Pl to name a few)

We took the opportunity to spend a few days sightseeing in and around Hobart before heading down to Port Arthur for the anticipated walk. The Proe’s joined us for the prologue fun with the Morey’s joining us later for the walk.

We found a self contained AirBnB apartment nice and central in Battery Point an easy central location in Hobart with beautiful old cottages and the like.

Of course one must start any sightseeing with a visit to Salamanca Place, a lovely strip of sandstone buildings formally warehouses for the Port, but now converted into restaurants, art galleries and craft shops. A great spot to grab a bite to eat before heading of to the Tourist Information Centre to plan our itinerary for the next couple of days

We also were handed a self guided tour for Battery Point and now being late afternoon thought it an appropriate way to spend the time before heading down to Constitution Dock to eat fish & chips for dinner.

The next day was our trip to MONA (Museum of Old and New Art). Starting the day with breakfast at a Bakery Café called Jackman + McRoss in Hampden Rd, Battery Point (A wonderful tip by our good friend Carolyn). Best Café EVER!

MONA! No spoilers here! No words can begin to describe Mona, other than to say it was an experience and definitely challenges one on many fronts! As it is intended to do and provides hours of discussions! It was an enjoyable outing and we made a full day of it. Finished off with dinner at a friendly Italian restaurant on our favorite Hampden Rd strip!

No need for a decision on where to have breakfast! Jackman + McRoss! Why not purchase some yummy filled rolls for lunch whilst we were at it, then off on an adventure to Mt Field National P

ark for some fresh Tasmanian air and be spoilt by the beautiful rainforest and magnificent Russell falls!

On the return journey it was a pitstop at the local supermarket for in-house dining as well as last minute supplies for our hiking adventure. After diner it was a trip out to the airport to provide the Morey’s their door to door limo service and drop them at their exclusive RACV hotel in downtown Hobart. Decisions where made for the morning pickup time for our trip down to Port Arthur and a clumsy decline of the offer for breakfast at the Hotel as well, you know, Jackman + McRoss already had a reservation! (thanks Carolyn!)

The rest is history… Until next time!

Thanks Steve, about time! I have enjoyed the blog and photos over my cup of tea before work. Now I am wondering over the wisdom of why we are spending all our money to fly overseas when a cheap flight to Hobart may suffice!
